08.28If You Choose to Exercise at Home, You Have to Take Home Your Own Responsibility for the Results
Have you ever walked into a gym and notice somebody hunched over at a workout machine struggling to do the exercises, and it was so painful to watch that if not for the fear of mortifying that poor soul you would have walked up to them and told them how to correct their physique to make the exercise easier? Chances are if you have seen somebody do this, you take special efforts to make sure your form is correct as well, but every time you start a new exercise, even if you think you are super informed, you are running the risk that you could be also be performing the exercise wrong, especially if you are teaching yourself to do the exercise at home. The only difference between you and the person at the gym is that they were publicly humiliated, while you are quietly and unknowingly doing the same thing at home.
With exercise equipment getting cheaper to purchase, busy schedules getting busier, and the advent of the home gym, many people are now choosing to exercise at home which is fine, and oftentimes more convenient meaning they are actually working out more frequently than they would if they had to go to a gym. However, without the careful eye of other exercisers and gym trainers, they are incorrectly learning their exercises. Like the example above, one of these people could be you, and you could be running the risk of damaging a muscle or simply performing exercises that despite your most frequent heartfelt efforts will never result in the burning of fat or building of muscle.
A great way to prevent this from happening to you is take advantage of the workout charts that came with your home gym. If you just own pieces of workout equipment, but not a home gym, then do not worry, just go to your local library and make copies of each exercise you are doing on the equipment you own or of each exercise you perform with your free weights. Oftentimes you can find copies of a general home gym workout chart which is great for your home use. The reason why is because these often split your body into two sections, or three depending on the type of exercise routine you wish to develop. They show you which exercises will target which areas and they also include diagrams that show you exactly how to perform the exercises and that is primary what you are looking for. Now you can do one rep and compare your bodys posture to the one in the picture. Are you shoulders staying straight or bending over and more importantly, is the models bending over or staying straight?
Theres your key to find out if what you have been doing is what you should be doing. Exercising at home can be rewarding, convenient and a great way to keep you in shape and build muscle without walking out the front door. For this to work for you, you have to keep your eye on the diagrams and double check yourself, because the only disadvantage to exercising at home is it truly is all in your hands.
